Diocese of Phoenix will sponsor Master’s Degree program through affiliation with Loyola Institute for Ministry Extension Program (LIMEX)
Information meetings to be held around Arizona

(April 8) The Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix will offer a master’s degree program through a partnership with the Loyola Institute for Ministry Extension (LIMEX) program of Loyola University New Orleans. Master’s degrees in Religious Education and Pastoral Studies will be available in the Diocese of Phoenix.

Beginning in the fall of 2003, programs will be offered in the focus areas of: Religious Education, Christian Spirituality for Ministers, Pastoral Life and Administration, Religion and Ecology, Marketplace Ministry, Hispanic Ministry, Youth Ministry, and Small Christian Community Formation.

In partnership with the Diocese of Phoenix, Loyola Institute of Ministry offers its master’s degree program by extension. Students meet in learning groups led by a Loyola-certified facilitator for 10 of the courses. In these common courses, students engage in 10 three-hour sessions that involve discussion of printed lectures and other assigned readings, videotaped input by nationally known scholars and other educational interactions. Students also choose two additional courses in their focus area or religious education. In these courses, a multimedia course packet is provided to the students. The packet guides the students through a learning process that combines independent study and peer group sharing.

Information sessions will be held in the following locations for students interested in pursuing a graduate degree through the LIMEX program:

  • April 29 — Sacred Heart Parish, 150 Fleury Ave., Prescott, 1:30-3 p.m.
  • April 29 — St. John Vianney Parish, 180 Soldiers Pass Road, Sedona, 7–8:30 p.m.
  • April 30 — Diocesan Pastoral Center, 400 E. Monroe St., Phoenix, 9:30-11 a.m. or 7-8:30 p.m.
  • May 1 — Interchurch Center, 4423 N 24th St., Phoenix, 10-11:30 a.m.

Loyola Institute for Ministry is committed to practical theology as a process that engages students in a rhythm of action and theological reflection on their specific ministries. Students critically reflect on both content and experience as they consider and correlate the richness of the Christian tradition with the socio-cultural, institutional, and personal context of their ministries. The various curricula offered by the institute provide women and men in ministry and religious education with an informed and contemporary theological vision and with practical ministerial skills. Scheduling is flexible to accommodate the needs of adult learners.
