St. Patrick's Grand Opening
(Aug 16 Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix) - Scottsdale’s largest Catholic
community, St. Patrick parish, is moving into a new church located on
their current property at 10815 North 84th Street just west of Shea Blvd.
and the 101 freeway. Their first Mass in the new building will be the
Mass of Thanksgiving on Wednesday, September 4, 2002 at 7:00 p.m.
St. Patrick’s parish opened in 1985 under the direction of founding
pastor, Fr. Brian Fenlon. With 11,000 square feet and seating for 600
people, it has become too small for St. Patrick’s 3,500 registered
families.
The new facility is 34,000 square feet, has 900 parking spaces, and seats
over 1,200 people. No seat is more than 60 feet from the altar.
Earth, wind, fire, and water – the elements with which people have
historically encountered God – are the theme of the artwork throughout
the building. The Blessed Sacrament Chapel is located at the very center
of the property.
Fr. Eric Tellez, pastor of St. Patrick since 1995, says the church is
“built for the new century” as the parish community continues
to work on hospitality, liturgy, social justice, and stewardship.
St. Patrick’s will host open houses on Wednesday and Thursday,
August 28th and 29th from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Beginning Saturday, September 7, 2002, the new Mass times will be Saturday
at 5:00 p.m., Sunday at 8:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and Youth Liturgy at 5:00
p.m.
